That Great Gretsch Sound, via Chet “style” finger pickin’, echoed throughout the ballrooms, hallways and lobby at the beautiful Sheraton Music City Hotel in Nashville, Tenn., from July 13-16, 2011 during the 27th Annual “CAAS” (Chet Atkins Appreciation Society) convention.
Folks from around the globe once again gathered to pay homage to Chester Burton Atkins (B: June 20, 1924 – D: June 30, 2001), better known as Chet Atkins for the celebrated annual event. Gretsch Guitars and local Gretsch dealer, Broadway Sound (Knoxville, Tenn.), had a magnificent display honoring Atkins with his signature model Gretsch guitars, rare vintage photos & memorabilia. The Gretsch Company president Fred Gretsch was also on hand to meet & greet attendees.
In recognition of a special exhibit honoring Atkins at the Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum in Nashville from August 11, 2011 thru June 2012, Gretsch unveiled the G6122-1959 “Chet Atkins HALL OF FAME Country Gentleman” guitar at this year’s CAAS event.

If you caught Interpol during the 2011 Coachella festival, you may remember watching a short film directed by David Lynch playing on the video boards during the band’s performance of “Lights,” a track off their self-titled record. A video clip of the collaboration is now available on the web.
Band member and Grestch-wielding guitarist Daniel Kessler told the Huffington Post that the band has had long-time desires of engaging in a cinematic collaboration, and that Lynch has always been among their list of top choices.
“We’re all big fans of David,” said Kessler to HP. “It’s a common point, one of those things that’s unanimous.”
The clip features an animated character based on one of Lynch’s sketches. Watch below…

HBO has acquired the North American broadcast rights to Martin Scorsese’s George Harrison: Living in the Material World, which will debut in two parts — on October 5 and October 6, 2011 — exclusively on HBO.
London — Lionsgate Home Entertainment UK announced that it will be releasing the film in the UK on 10th October 2011 in three editions – DVD, Blu-ray and DVD Double play (DVD/ BD combi pack), and a beautifully packaged DVD / Blu-Ray Deluxe Edition, which includes an exclusive CD of previously unheard tracks from George Harrison, and a book of photography to accompany the film.
George Harrison: Living in the Material World focuses the imaginative and inspired eye of one of cinema’s most pre-eminent filmmakers on one of the world’s most influential men. The film takes viewers on the musical and spiritual voyage that was George Harrison’s life, much of it told in his own words. The result is deeply moving and touches each viewer in unique and individual ways.
Academy Award-winning director Martin Scorsese traces Harrison’s life from his musical beginnings in Liverpool through his life as a musician, a seeker, a philanthropist, and filmmaker. Scorsese weaves together interviews with Harrison and his closest friends, performances, home movies, and photographs. Much of the material in the film has never been seen (or heard) before. The result is a rare glimpse into the mind and soul of one of the most talented artists of his generation and a profoundly intimate and affecting work of cinema.
The film includes interviews with Eric Clapton, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, George Martin, Paul McCartney, Yoko Ono, Tom Petty, Phil Spector, Ringo Starr and Jackie Stewart. They speak honestly and frankly about George’s many talents and contradictions.
Additionally, in late September, Abrams Books will publish Olivia Harrison’s George Harrison: Living in the Material World, a personal archive of photographs, letters, diaries, and memorabilia from George’s life that reveals the arc of his life, from his guitar-obsessed boyhood in Liverpool, to the astonishment of the Beatles years, to his days as an independent musician and bohemian squire. The book release is intended to coincide with the release of Scorsese’s film.

Gretsch celebrates the legacy of George Harrison with the G6128T-GH George Harrison Signature Duo Jet guitar, modeled on the instrument that the legendary guitarist referred to as his “first real decent guitar.”
Features include distinctive appointments and modifications found on and inspired by Harrison’s original 1957 Gretsch Duo Jet, which he purchased secondhand in the early 1960s. These include a lightweight mid-’50s-style chambered body, all-black color scheme (arched maple top, mahogany back and sides, and back of the one-piece mahogany neck), Bigsby® B3C tailpiece with a black Phillips head tremolo arm pivot bolt, and an offset strap button on the lower bout.
Other features include three-ply body binding (white-black-white), white single-ply neck and headstock binding, 22-fret rosewood fingerboard with 12” radius and hump-block pearloid inlays, two single-coil DynaSonic™ pickups, vintage-style “rocking bar” bridge with rosewood base, silver plexi pickguard, chrome-plated Grover® V98CM Sta-Tite™ tuners, Gretsch “G” arrow control knobs, chrome-plated hardware, Harrison’s signature on the truss rod cover and a premium tweed case.
The G6128T-GH George Harrison Signature Duo Jet evokes the vibe of Harrison’s original Duo Jet, which he held dear in the Beatles’ early-’60s era and used to record the group’s landmark first album, Please Please Me (1963). A quarter-century later, Harrison was pictured with the guitar on the cover of his acclaimed 1987 solo album, Cloud Nine. Further, the introduction of the G6128T-GH George Harrison Signature Duo Jet closely follows the early 2011 release of the Gretsch Custom Shop G6128T-GH George Harrison “Tribute” Duo Jet, a limited edition relic model that meticulously mirrored the original guitar down to the tiniest detail.
