The 55th annual Grammy Awards show honored several breakout acts this year, drawing from an eclectic group of artists.
The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach actually led the night with four trophies, sweeping the rock categories (song, album and performance) while also nabbing a Grammy for producer of the year.
British folk band Mumford & Sons won Album of the Year for Babel, indie-pop act Fun. won Song of the Year for “We Are Young,” Halestorm was honored with the Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance for “Love Bites (So Do I)” and Australian singer Gotye won Record of the Year for “Somebody That I Used to Know.”
Gretsch signature artist Tim Armstrong might not have won an award with his punk outfit Rancid, but the singer-songwriter did take home some hardware for his collaboration with reggae icon Jimmy Cliff. (more…)

Legendary skateboarder Steve Alba celebrated his 50th birthday in style, gathering a crew at the Fontana North skatepark in California for a party that included a skate session and live music from the Flamethrowers.

The Elvis Presley showcase continued this week on The Late Show with David Letterman with a fiery performance of “Hound Dog” by Brandon Bennett.
Bennett, who was accompanied by Gretsch artist Wyatt Maxwell, is currently playing the role of “The King” in the Chicago-based production of “Million Dollar Quartet,” which celebrates the spirit of a recording session that included Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Presley. (more…)

Fiction Family, the collaboration between Switchfoot’s Jon Foreman and Nickel Creek’s Sean Watkins, has released a new album to correspond with the start of non-profit To Write Love on Her Arms’ Heavy and Light tour.
