Band Of Skulls Rock Showdown At Cedar Street

Posted:

U.K. rockers Band of Skulls came out smoking at FILTER Magazine’s Showdown at Cedar Street on Thursday, rocking the South by Southwest crowd with fan favorites and new sure-to-be-hits.

Opening with “Sweet Sour,” the title track off their well-received 2012 release, guitarist Russell Marsden and bassist Emma Richardson snarled through the song with crunchy riffs that had the audience’s collective heads nodding.

With drummer Matt Hayward destroying his kit as the clouds broke and the sun shone down on the ivy-lined Cedar Street courtyard, Band of Skulls launched into what Marsden called “the loudest and fastest song we have” with “You’re Not Pretty But You’ve Got It Going On.”

Band of Skulls also ran through “I Know What I Am” and a guitar-pounding version of “Light Of The Morning” off their debut album, Baby Darling Doll Face Honey, with Marsden pulling out a gold Gretsch Anniversary and a White Falcon.

They also played new single “The Devil Takes Care Of His Own.”
