Last year, Tim Armstrong noted that new material from Rancid and the Transplants would be on the way, but before those records drop, fans can look forward to Armstrong’s solo project, Tim Timebomb and Friends, releasing a debut album on Dec. 11.
Armstrong has been posting tracks on his official YouTube channel over the past few weeks, offering a mix of originals and covers with several guest musicians, including Pink and Travis Barker.
“Tim Timebomb and Friends is a place for me to share with you some of my favorite songs that I’ve recorded with friends of mine,” Armstrong wrote on the Tim Timebomb website. ”I’ve always enjoyed sharing music, whether I’m just sitting around playing acoustic guitar with my friends or breaking out old 45’s.
“I guess you could call me a music nerd. I like everything from Bob Dylan to the Ramones, to Jimmy Cliff to Cock Sparrer. I plan to bring together a great group of players to record covers as well as some originals. I hope you dig it and encourage you to pass them on.” (more…)

Gretsch caught up with Rancid at Center Staging in Burbank, Calif., as they rehearsed for their upcoming run of shows with Blink-182. The two-week run in support of Blink-182 (also featuring Against Me and My Chemical Romance) kicks off on Aug. 25 in Winnipeg and wraps on Sept. 4 in Denver. Immediately following, the punk rock outfit will headline four shows of their own.
Tour dates available here.
Rancid has been taking an extended break for the last 18 months, but plan to return to the studio after the tour to record their eighth studio album with Brett Gurewitz.
“We thought that these shows would help us to get our chops up before going into the studio,” the band states on their official website. “It’s always good for us to go out and play some shows, just to get us ready before going into the studio, and that helps bring that live energy to tape.”

Blink-182 and the Transplants drummer Travis Barker posted a music video for “Saturday Night,” a song off his first solo album Give The Drummer Some, released earlier this year.
The video features a guest appearance from Slash, as well as Transplants guitarist and Gretsch signature artist Tim Armstrong wielding his signature Gretsch G5191.
