See Local Natives Perform on ‘Conan’

Posted:

President Barack Obama wasn’t the only one on television last night trying to appeal to a greater sense of hope and humanity.  Los Angeles indie rockers Local Natives were the musical guests Wednesday night on Conan, where they performed “Fountain of Youth,” a yearning and carefree track off upcoming album Sunlit Youth.

“Early on while we were working on the record, this song became something of a rallying cry for us, a call to keep us accountable to following our true inspirations and desires,” said the band on their Facebook page. In a time of cynicism dressed as realism, when it feels like the world might be falling apart around us, I believe there is reason to be hopeful, optimistic, and idealistic. Socially, politically, and personally we’ve felt many defeats, but have come back to the realization that this is our world to make. Consider the many victories, small and large that have been going on around us these last couple of years. There’s a lot left to do, but we should feel hopeful that we are the ones who can do it, and we can do whatever we want.”

The words “Make America afraid again” were scrawled across Taylor Rice’s guitar during the late-night performance, which according to a press release, were in criticism of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. Guitarist Ryan Hahn also looks like he added something by his Bigsby and doodled on the pickguard of his Gretsch Electromatic, but we can’t make it out!? (Any guesses out there?)

Watch the Lone Bellow Perform ‘Take My Love’ on Conan

Posted:

The Lone BellowCelebrating the release of latest album Then Came the Morning, the Lone Bellow recently appeared on Conan to perform the single “Take My Love.”

The electrified song shows the band at their most heartfelt, with frontman Zach Williams putting his all into the vocals and guitarist Brian Elmquist getting killer tone out of his Gretsch Black Falcon.

The sophomore effort was produced by the National’s Aaron Dessner, who helped craft a record that is moodier and even more lush than Lone Bellow’s 2013 self-titled debut, and “Take My Love” is a great example of that direction.

Watch the Lone Bellow in action below.

Watch The Tallest Man on Earth Perform on Conan

Posted:

Swedish act The Tallest Man on Earth visited Conan last night for a terrific performance “Sagres” off recently released album Dark Bird is Home.

Earlier in the episode, O’Brien actually encouraged viewers to switch the channel to watch David Letterman’s final show.

“I haven’t done that in all my years on the air, but tonight, this is a worthwhile thing to do,” said O’Brien. “It’s 11:35. Record us, but switch to Dave!”

So for those who followed his instructions and missed the Kristian Matsson-led band, check it out below to see O’Brien also give some props to Matsson’s 12-string Gretsch Chet Atkins Country Gentlemen.

Did You Miss Royal Blood on Conan?

Posted:

If you missed UK thunderous duo Royal Blood’s recent performance on Conan, you can still watch a clip of the band performing “Figure It Out” here.

The guys seemed to be in a partying spirit for the late-night stop, as bassist/singer Mike Kerr wore big sunglasses and drummer Ben Thatcher inexplicably donned a blonde wig.

But despite the accoutrements, Royal Blood delivered more of the thunderous rock they’ve become known for over the past year.

Check it out in the video below.
