Fall Out Boy Perform on Opening Night of MLB

Posted:

Fall Out Boy helped ignite the opening night of the 2015 Major League Baseball season on Sunday with an on-field, three song set prior to the Chicago Cubs game against the St. Louis Cardinals at Wrigley Field.

It was a natural fit for the band, whose members grew up in the suburbs of Chicago.

“Wrigley Field has always been a magical place to me,” said bassist Pete Wentz. “In some ways I can chart milestones of my life and growing up there —from going to see Andre Dawson and Ryne Sandberg play, to going with the my dad to the one of the first night games they ever had there, to the first time I took the ‘EL’ there on my own for a game with my friends. When our band all lived in an apartment together in Roscoe Village, we used to pass out flyers for shows at the Metro after games. It has been a lifetime dream to get the chance to play at Wrigley Field. We are grateful to MLB for the opportunity and so excited to perform for our hometown crowd.”

Watch the band perform platinum hit “Centuries” on opening day below.

Fall Out Boy Headline VH1 Super Bowl Blitz

Posted:

After scoring their third No. 1 album with American Beauty/American Psycho, Fall Out Boy spent some time giving back to some special fans on Friday, headlining the VH1 Super Bowl Blitz: A Concert for the Troops.

On a stage inside a hangar with a giant American flag draped across the back wall, Fall Out Boy kicked things off with a fan favorite in “Thnks fr th Mmrs (Thanks for the Memories)” from 2007’s Infinity on High, followed by the newly released dance cut “Uma Thurman” and the fist-pumping “My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light ‘Em Up).”

Hosted by Nick Lachey at Luke Air Force Base in Glendale, Ariz., the televised concert also included a quick opening set by Charli XCX, and appearances by Broadway star Idina Menzel, who sang the National Anthem at Super Bowl XLIX, and American Idol winner and Arizona native Jordin Sparks.

Of course, no Super Bowl event would be complete without a few NFL stars, which came in the way of Raiders running back Maurice Jones-Drew, Chicago Bears cornerback Charles Tillman and Bengals running back Jeremy Hill.

To bring the special concert to an end, Fall Out Boy closed with anthemic hit “Centuries,” which has quickly become a staple at sports venues. It certainly resonated with the Luke Air Force Base audience as well, as the sacrifices these men and women make to serve their country will be remembered in history.

Watch “Centuries” below.
